Davey O'Brien Foundation
I joined the Davey O’Brien Foundation in September 2022, and my initial responsibilities included monitoring our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts during the 2022 college football season. This involved engaging with followers, reposting content, creating captions for the 2022 semifinalists, tracking analytics, tabulating results, and reporting social media progress at executive board meetings.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation is dedicated to honoring excellence in college football and supporting student-athletes who exhibit leadership, character, and teamwork on and off the field. The foundation annually awards the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, recognizing the nation’s best college quarterback, as well as the Davey O'Brien High School Scholarship and the Legends Award. The awards celebrate the legacy of Davey O’Brien, the first Heisman Trophy winner from TCU in 1938, and they Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award has become one of the most prestigious honors in college football.
In 2022, our accounts saw a 30% increase in overall post engagement compared to the 2021 season. I continued to help manage the Davey O’Brien social media accounts for the 2023 and 2024 seasons and worked regularly with our marketing agency, Rally Department, to create social campaigns throughout the college football season.
After our annual recipient is announced in December, my focus shifts to the Awards Dinner in February. My responsibilities for the awards dinner include coordinating with multiple vendors, communicating with the agency to create print materials, managing a 500+ person guest list, and coordinating volunteer assignments.
Joining the executive director at the Davey O’Brien Foundation was my first internship, and I will always be grateful to her for all she taught me and the opportunities that have come from the people I met at Davey. This unique opportunity gave me a front-row seat to one of the nation’s premier football awards programs, particularly in 2022 when a fellow TCU student won the award for the first time. I also had the chance to sit in on meetings with the National College Football Awards Association, including negotiations for the EA Sports College Football video game and the ESPN College Football Awards Show production.
In addition to the 2022, 2023, and 2024 award cycles, I helped develop events for New England Patriots quarterback and 2021 honoree Mac Jones (postponed to 2023 due to COVID) and a “welcome home” event for former NFL quarterback and 2009 honoree Colt McCoy.
